Anantapur: Teacher dies by suicide after debt burden

Anantapur: A headmaster died by suicide after incurring huge debts after investing in the name of trading and obtaining loans from private apps in the Anantapur district.

Bhaskar Babu, 53, was working as headmaster at MPP School in Mallikethi in Kudair mandal while his wife was also a teacher, and the family was residing at Prasanthi Kuteer in Ballary Road on the Anantapur outskirts. Bhaskar Babu made a suicide attempt in a deserted area in Kudair Mandal on Sunday, and locals alerted over the incident and shifted him to a general hospital. But he died while being shifted to the hospital.
Police found a suicide note from the teacher that he had invested `60 lakh after believing two friends, Gajula Sreenivasulu of Kambadur and Naresh Kumar Reddy of Anantapur, who were doing online trading. The teacher took out bank loans and also private loans from apps and private persons and invested in the stocks. The duo gave him promissory notes and cheques for the investment. Though they gave returns for a few months, the duo escaped from answering over the returns.
Bhaskar Babu, who was facing pressures from private lenders and also apps to repay the loans, failed to pay on time and took an extreme step and died by suicide in the desert area in Kudair Mandal. Kudair police registered a case against the two persons, Sreenivasulua and Naresh Kumar Reddy, based on a complaint by the deceased’s wife and also on the suicide note.
