Andhra Govt Opens New Dialysis Centre, Boosts Healthcare for Poor
TD-led government to enhance services in public hospitals: Minister
Tirupati: Health and family welfare minister Y. Sathya Kumar Yadav on Friday underlined that the TD-led NDA alliance government is committed to enhancing medical services for the underprivileged communities in Andhra Pradesh.
For the purpose, the government is focusing on improving infrastructure and upgrading medical equipment in public hospitals.
On the day, the minister, along with Nellore Rural MLA K. Sridhar Reddy, inaugurated the Bayya Sarojanamma Lions Pinakini Dialysis Centre at the Government General Hospital in Nellore on Friday. The centre has been established with support from donors Bayya Ravi, Bayya Vasu and others under the auspices of Lions Club International Foundation.
Speaking to media, Sathya Kumar Yadav pointed out that about 1,200 people in Nellore district are suffering from kidney disease, with approximately 11,000 new cases having been registered across the state. The government is thus taking steps to establish more dialysis centres.
The minister commended the donors for setting up six dialysis units in the Nellore Government Hospital under the Lions Club's supervision. He said the government is encouraging voluntary organisations and donors to come forward and establish more dialysis centres in the state. State government will bear the costs for maintenance of such centres, he stated.
Sathya Kumar Yadav maintained that the state's financial situation is not ideal due to mismanagement during the past five years. Yet, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is focusing on providing better services to the poor. He mentioned that the central government is also extending support in this regard.
Addressing concerns over the Aarogyasri scheme, the minister said it has been renamed NTR Vaidya Seva and is being implemented effectively along with central government's Ayushman Bharat programme.
Contrary to the previous government's claim that there are zero vacancies in hospitals, Yadav revealed 3,000 posts in hospitals needed to be filled. He disclosed that these positions will soon be filled and services of contract employees will also be regularised.
