Andhra Pradesh: Chittoor court slaps Rs 1.1 lakh fine on drunk drivers

Tirupati: A stern message has been sent to drunk drivers in Chittoor with the Principal Junior Civil Court imposing a collective fine of Rs 1.1 lakh on 11 individuals found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Each offender was penalised with a hefty fine of Rs 10,000.

The crackdown on drunk driving is part of a concerted effort by the Chittoor district police, led by SP V.N. Manikantha Chandolu. The recent arrests were made during a vehicle inspection drive conducted by the Chittoor traffic police under the supervision of sub-divisional DSP Rajagopal Reddy.

Inspector Nitya Babu and his team were at the forefront of the operation. Over the past nine months, the district police have conducted numerous anti-drunk driving campaigns, resulting in the imposition of fines amounting to approximately Rs 18.9 lakh on 251 offenders.SP Manikantha Chandolu underscored the gravity of drunk driving, emphasising the potential consequences for both the offender and other road users.

He urged citizens to prioritise road safety and strictly adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents, fines, and even imprisonment. The SP stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility and called for public cooperation in creating a safer road environment.
