 Vijayawada: A 34-year-old man was stabbed to death during a brawl in Chirala town of Bapatla district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Kancharla Santosh, belonging to Paparaju Thota of Chirala, police said.

Chirala I Town circle-inspector P. Seshagiri Rao stated that the deceased, Santosh, who operates a curry point named Khana Khazana near Sangam Theatre, was stabbed with a sharp object by a man who works at a fruit shop adjacent to the victim’s curry point.

“The issue began when the victim objected to the water discharged by the fruit shop owner in front of the victim’s curry point. A brawl ensued between the victim and the fruit shop owner. In a fit of rage, a worker at the fruit shop stabbed Santosh in the stomach, inflicting a severe injury on his abdomen,” the CI said.

Seshagiri Rao informed that the victim breathed his last while being shifted to the Chirala Government Hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

The CI said the suspects, Jogi Yesubabu, alias Chinna, 35, and Umamaheswara Rao, the worker and owner of the fruit shop respectively, are under police custody. The police are further analysing the CCTV footage to establish the identity of the accused. A case under Section 302 read with Section 34 of the IPC has been registered, and a probe is underway.
