Andhra Pradesh: Manyam District Faces Outbreak of Malaria
Visakhapatnam: In the wake of heavy rains and resulting water stagnation, Parvatipuram Manyam district is witnessing a surge in malaria cases. Tribal people in scores of villages are bedridden with malaria and viral fevers.
As per reports, five students of schools all over the district have succumbed to malaria and dengue. Medical authorities have recorded 708 cases of malaria and 28 cases of dengue in the district.
The situation is such that primary and community health centres are struggling to manage the situation. Many of the tribal people are depending on registered medical practitioners (RMPs) for treatment.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, district medical and health officer S.P.T. Vijaya Parvati said fogging activities are being carried out in association with local bodies to contain the menace of mosquitoes. Tribal people are being advised to use the mosquito nets distributed to them.
Use of ACM solution to check breeding of mosquitoes has been expanded from 280 villages to 401 villages.
District authorities have identified 451 high-risk villages for implementation of the malaria control programme. A comprehensive fever survey has been undertaken to detect and address malaria cases.
Students who have succumbed to malaria or dengue are B. Iswara Rao of Rawadaramabhadra Puram, Biddika Rakshmita of Sarubujjili mandal, P. Raghava, Mandangi of Gumma Lakshmi Puram mandal, Gautham and Biddika Pridhvi of Kurupam mandal.
