Andhra Pradesh to Roll Out PM Surya Ghar Scheme for Rooftop Solar

Vijayawada: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has directed AP power utilities to implement Government of India’s “PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana – across Andhra Pradesh on a large scale and achieve its objective.


Ravi Kumar released a poster and leaflets on the scheme at the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) on Tuesday under which rooftop solar plants will be installed on one crore houses with an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore. “This will provide free / low-cost electricity of up to 300 units per month, enhancing energy security and boosting the local economy,” he underlined.

The minister asked all electricity consumers to take advantage of the scheme by availing subsidy for installing solar panels apart from loan at low interest rates without any collateral.

“This initiative will help reduce carbon emissions, conserve environment and save natural resources for future generations. Beneficiaries can also earn money through sale of solar power to DISCOMS and save money on their electricity bills,” Ravi Kumar explained.

Special chief secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand and APEPDCL chairman and managing director I. Prudhvi Tej were present on the occasion.
