Kurnool: A couple died by suicide due to their son's addiction to online betting, which had plunged the family into debt in Abdullapur, Velugodu mandal, Nandyal district on Tuesday night.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as Maheshwar Reddy, 40, and Shanthi, 35, from Abdullapur village.

Velugodu SI Bhupaludu stated that their son, Nikhilesh Reddy, a college dropout, was addicted to online betting and other habits, leading to substantial financial losses. His involvement in failed business ventures further exacerbated the family’s debt situation. In an effort to repay the debts, Maheshwar Reddy was forced to sell some of his agricultural land, but the financial burden persisted. He had recently put the remaining land up for sale, but it had not yet been sold.

On Tuesday night, the couple went to their farmland and decided to end their lives. The police have registered a case, and an investigation is underway.
