AP Declares 54 Mandals Drought-Affected
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh agriculture minister K. Atchannaidu announced that 54 mandals across five districts—Annamayya, Chittoor, Sri Sathya Sai, Anantapur, and Kurnool—have been declared drought-affected for the Kharif season. Responding to a question during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Friday, the minister explained that the shortage of rainfall during the Kharif season had severely impacted several crops. He clarified that the revenue department, which handles disaster management, is responsible for assessing and analyzing the impact indicators in mandals before declaring them drought-hit.
Accordingly, Anantapur has 19 mandals, Chittor 16, Sri Satya Sai-10, Anantapur-seven while Kurnool has two mandals announced drought-hit.
