Vijayawada: YSRC has strongly opposed the privatisation of the Aarogyasri scheme, warning the coalition government against handing it over to insurance companies. Former MLA Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy stated that Aarogyasri, introduced by Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy, has become a vital welfare scheme for the public. He criticised attempts to privatise it, which would burden poor patients and undermine government control.
Srinivasa Reddy highlighted issues with the current system, including confusion over the Rs 5 lakh limit and complaints about insurance companies rejecting claims. He demanded the clearance of Rs 3,000 crore in Aarogyasri dues and the retention of the old system, where premiums paid are similar to the benefits under the scheme.
