Vijayawada: Former minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao has flayed the coalition government for its “neglect” of farmers and its “failure” to procure paddy. Rao demanded that the government immediately purchase paddy from farmers to alleviate their suffering.
Speaking to the media on Friday, the YSRC leader said the erstwhile YSRC government had directly purchased paddy from over 35 lakh farmers and deposited the money directly into their bank accounts. Instead, the alliance government now allowed “middlemen and miller syndicates to dominate the market.”
Rao criticised the government's “inaction in procuring paddy and the complete breakdown of the e-cropping and insurance systems.”
While the previous government adopted a transparent system of tracking paddy movement through tagging, the current government was encouraging vested interests, he alleged.
He said the previous government had provided farmers Rs 13,500 per acre under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, the present government “failed to implement any significant welfare scheme for farmers.”

Nageswara Rao said the Naidu-led alliance government was helping a powerful mafia to engage in illegal export of subsidised ration rice to other countries. “Our government had provided a diverse range of essential commodities through the PDS, while this government has limited its offerings to rice and sugar.”
