Vijayawada: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Andhra Pradesh coordinator and retired Director General of Police (DGP), Dr Purnachandra Rao, announced on Sunday that the party would hold a BC Sabha in Vijayawada on August 20. The event coincides with Sri Narayana Guru Jayanti and will focus on the demand for a comprehensive caste census as the primary issue.

Rao emphasised the importance of unity among BC communities to advocate for their rights and rightful political representation. He criticised the historical neglect and exploitation of BCs as mere vote banks and stressed the need for collective action to pressure the government.

Regarding the programme, Rao explained that the event will feature a round table discussion focused on the rights, reservations, and political representation of BCs. He has invited BC leaders and activists from various parties and districts, as well as students and intellectuals, to participate in the daylong programme in Vijayawada. He further noted that, in addition to BSP leaders, representatives from various BC unions across the state are expected to participate in this significant event.

"The leaders will collectively demand an immediate state and national-level caste census, ensuring BCs receive their due share in reservations within legislatures and other local bodies. We will also call for promotions for BCs in government jobs and universities, prioritise them for nominated posts, and push for the implementation of the BC Protection Act promised by the state government," said Rao.
