Vijayawada:Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu met representatives of banks and insurance companies here on Wednesday and called for settlement of the claims of Budameru flood victims within 10 days.

The chief minister noted that thousands of houses were submerged and vehicles and electronic equipment lost due to the Budameru floods. He discussed with insurance company representatives the issue of damage to the vehicles in the floods.

Naidu noted, ”The people of Vijayawada are facing an unprecedented disaster. Although there were cyclones and floods in the past, the present situation is different. Flash floods have led to dire situations. There is no water to drink. Vehicles were damaged in every house. Two-wheelers and cars were submerged in water. All the equipment of the cottage industries got flooded. Household appliances like fridges, TVs, ACs were damaged.”

He said rules should be simplified and loans given to affected people. Insurance claims on vehicles etc should be settled within 10 days or to a maximum of 14 days. Process should be completed expeditiously through online mode.

The CM said, “Time limit of loans of flood-affected people should be rescheduled. Loans should be sanctioned on a war footing. Everything from vehicles to electronics was damaged. Due to the Budameru floods, people lost everything and have to start life anew.”

He said, “Banks have to play a vital role in giving reassurance to the people. The government, banks and insurance companies should give courage to the people. We are thinking about how to help those who have insurance and those who do not.”

“The state government is in consultation with the central government and RBI to help the flood victims. Along with the government, bankers and agencies should also respond in a humane way. Victims will be given an opportunity to apply for claims at village and ward secretariats.”

“Claims should be applied for with the help of the data available with the consumer as well as the data available with the municipal and transport departments. Let's collate all the data from all departments to help the victims.”

Naidu asked bankers to reschedule loans. He said the government identifies the details of the victims and gives them to the bankers. Insurance companies should take a humanitarian approach in helping distressed consumers.
