The Andhra Pradesh High Court denied anticipatory bail to ex-Guntur hospital superintendent Neelam Prabhavathi in a custodial torture case involving former MP K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has dismissed a plea from former superintendent of the government hospital in Guntur, Neelam Prabhavathi, for anticipatory bail in a custodial torture case. The case involved former MP and assembly deputy speaker K Raghu Rama Krishna Raju.

A single judge bench of Justice VRK Krupa Sagar held a hearing on the petition here on Friday. The court observed that it has basic evidence on allegations made by the police against Prabhavathi. It said the medical bard headed by Prabhavathi failed to properly examine the X-ray reports of the injuries on the body of the former MP. The court opined that it cannot rule out the role of Prabhavathi in misrepresenting the facts. Doctors are having the moral responsibility to follow the directions issued by the courts, the single bench said, and dismissed the petition.
