CM Naidu's call to work for uplift of backward castes
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has recalled the services of Guru Kanakadasa to the society as a renowned social reformer, poet and devotee of Lord Krishna.
In a statement issued on the occasion of Kanakadasa Jayanti on Monday, the chief minister underscored the contributions of the Guru in advocating social change and campaigning against caste system, particularly in Rayalaseema region.
Naidu urged everyone to work for uplift of the backward castes while respecting their culture and traditions. He noted that the simple language in which Kanakadasa conveyed his messages many years ago continued to guide modern society.
The chief minister said the government would celebrate Kanakadasa Jayanti across the state.
Several ministers and MLAs paid their respects to Guru Kanakadasa by garlanding his portrait at the assembly hall in Velagapudi on Monday. They highlighted how his hymns raised mass awareness against the caste system and inequalities in Rayalaseema region.
Present at the event were ministers Kinjirapu Atchannaidu, Anagani Sathya Prasad, Nadeendla Manohar, BC Janardhan Reddy, Satyakumar Yadav, TG Bharat, Kandula Durgesh and Kondapalli Srinivas. Assembly chief whip GV Anjaneyulu, Whip Kalwa Srinivasulu and several other MLAs, including G Jayaram, Kandikunta Venkata Prasad and assembly Secretary SD Prasanna Kumar were also present.
