Commission on SC Sub-Categorisation Visits Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam:A government-appointed commission on the sub-categorisation of scheduled castes, chaired by retired IAS officer Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, visited Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. The commission convened at the district collector's office to gather proposals from SC groups, employment associations, and community leaders.

District collector M.N. Harendira Prasad presented caste-wise statistics and departmental inputs. A total of 194 memorandums were submitted. The Dalit Sangham Eikya Vedika highlighted that Articles 341 and 342 mandate parliamentary approval for changes to the SC list, requiring a two-thirds majority. They stressed reservations address social disadvantages, rejecting the relevance of the creamy layer criterion.
