CUAP Celebrates First National Space Day
Anantapur:Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) on Friday commemorated India’s successful Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander touch down in the Lunar South Polar region on August 23, 2023.
By accomplishing this mission, India became the fourth nation to accomplish such a landing and the first to land near the Moon's South Pole.
Government of India has declared August 23 as “National Space Day”, ensuring that the successful landing is celebrated annually.
The CUAP organised a guest lecture on the day by Dr. Manohar Kumar C. V. S. S. from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology. He explained how remote sensing is helping monitor forests, urban expansion, agriculture and the atmosphere.
Dr. Manohar Kumar emphasised why machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence are essential in remote sensing.
Prof. V. V. N. Rajendra Prasad, senior professor, presided over the National Space Day event. Students and faculty members involved themselves actively in the celebrations.
On the day, the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science conducted a quiz on space exploration.
Vice chancellor Prof. S. A. Kori and dean Prof. C. Sheela Reddy were among those who participated in the event.
