Vijayawada: A face pack prepared by a class VI girl student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Surya Lanka, in Bapatla district after watching a YouTube video resulted in 17 of her classmates falling ill on Saturday with symptoms of vomiting, weakness and throat infection.

The girl student had stored the face pack she made in a box to hide it from her parents. She carried the box to school and opened it in her classroom to show it to her friends.

School authorities took the 17 students to the nearby Indian Air Force (IAF) medical facility, where they received preliminary treatment. The students were subsequently sent to the Government Area Hospital in Bapatla. Sixteen of the students were discharged from the hospital after their health became stable. However, one girl student complained of fever and is still under treatment.

Bapatla Rural circle inspector K. Gangadhar told Deccan Chronicle that the incident took place around 11:30 am on Saturday. He said a case will be booked if the school principal lodges a complaint with the police.

Upon learning about the incident, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu spoke to the officials concerned and enquired about the students’ health condition.
