Visakhaptnam: The central and state governments have announced that the first Automated Inspection and Certification Centre (AICC) will be established near the IIM-Visakhapatnam campus at Gambhiram on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam.
The central government has allocated ₹16.5 crores for the AICC centre, which is expected to be ready by December. The automated inspection and certification involves comprehensive vehicle fitness certification processes, such as brake tests, emission level checks, headlight tests, wheel alignment and engine noise tests.According to motor vehicle inspector (MVI) M. Buchi Raju, the vehicles undergoing the fitness test will enter the Gambhiram ATS building from one side and exit from the other after completing the test. The automated system will perform 12 different tests, eliminating the need for manual intervention. The role of MVIs will primarily be limited to verifying the results. In the past, motor vehicle inspectors conducted fitness tests before issuing fitness certificates (FCs) for goods and passenger vehicles. This process often involved collection of bribes and unofficial fees.To resolve this issue, the central government has mandated the establishment of automated testing centres in all states, allowing FCs to be issued without any manual intervention.
