Ganja, stolen property worth Rs 23.18 lakhs recovered; 5 held

Kurnool: Prakasam district police arrested five people on Sunday in connection with ganja and theft cases, seizing property, gold jewelry, and other items valued at Rs 23.18 lakhs.

The Podili sub-inspector and his staff apprehended the suspects behind the BSNL office in Podili town, registering a case under crime number 209/2024, invoking sections 8 (c) r/w 20(b) (ii) (B) of the NDPS Act within the Podili Police Station limits.
Among those arrested was M. Hussain, who was found in possession of 1.350 kg of ganja, intended for sale through the other suspects to generate income. The circle inspector caught them, recovering the ganja and Rs 6,700 in cash. During interrogation, Shaik Krupa Rao confessed to committing thefts in eight cases, leading to the recovery of approximately 255 gm of gold ornaments from him.
When interrogated, Venugopal Reddy and Shaik Tarun admitted to stealing a wallet and a 24-gm Nallapusala Danda (marriage necklace). Police recovered the neckpiece from Venugopal Reddy as well as a 24-gram gold chain from Tarun.
Additionally, a Honda Shine motorcycle belonging to Avula Brahmaiah was seized for further investigation. The stolen property was linked to various police stations, including Tanguturu, Vinukonda, Kandukur, Nellore, Bapatla, Tenali, and Addanki.
SP A.R. Damodar explained that the arrested persons include M. Hussain from Odisha, Shaik Krupa Rao from Ongole, V. Venugopal Reddy from Tallur, Shaik Tarun from Cheemakurthy, and Avula Brahmaiah from Yerragondapalem. The police seized 1.350 kg of ganja, approximately 303 gm of gold, a motorcycle, and Rs 6,700 in cash, with a total estimated value of Rs 23,18,900.
Darshi DSP B. Lakshmi Narayana, Podili circle inspector Venkateswarlu, and Podili head constable K. Purnachandra Rao were commended by SP A.R. Damodar for their efforts, along with other staff members involved in the investigation.
