Guntur's liquor lovers loot alcohol bottles during police destruction drive
VIJAYAWADA: A chaotic situation unfolded at the Nalla Cheruvu dumping yard on Etukuru Road in Guntur as bystanders jumped in to grab liquor bottles when police attempted to destroy them.
The police, under the directions of Guntur SP S. Satish Kumar brought illegal liquor bottles worth Rs 50 lakh seized during the Assembly elections to the Nalla Cheruvu dumping yard for their destruction on Monday.
As the police prepared to destroy the liquor bottles, large crowds gathered to witness the event. Moments after the destruction began, the police left the spot. Taking advantage of the absence of police, the youth and alcoholics grabbed the liquor bottles and ran away.
Police managed to recover some of the bottles from individuals attempting to take them. Higher officials ordered an investigation into the incident to identify the individuals who stole liquor bottles from the scene. Video grabs of people jumping in to grab liquor bottles are going viral.
