Vijayawada: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) of the neighbouring Telangana government found a special mention during Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s press conference on the ongoing flood situation in Vijayawada.

It is widely believed that encroachments on the Budameru Canal have led to the crises in Vijayawada, leading to loss of 32 lives.

When a reporter asked whether the government is considering formation of a department similar to HYDRAA, Pawan Kalyan responded that what Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is doing is right.

“The neighbouring state formed HYDRAA and is cracking down on encroachers. It is demolishing permanent structures built on the encroached buffer zones and full tank levels (FTLs) in Hyderabad city,” Pawan recalled.

However, he believed that a similar drive in Andhra Pradesh and razing of illegal structures could precipitate social issues and tensions.

“As a HYDRA-like special drive will lead to intricate problems, a hybrid methodology is needed in AP to prevent encroachments within water bodies,” Pawan Kalyan remarked.
