Visakhapatnam: The divisional railway manager (DRM) of Waltair division of East Coast Railway, Saurabh Prasad, on Thursday hoisted the National Flag to mark the 78th Independence Day, here.

He underscored the significance of this year's Independence Day, saying this is a pivotal moment in the ongoing journey of progress during the Amrit Kaal which leads up to the centenary of India's independence in 2047.

He highlighted several accomplishments of the Waltair division, including a milestone of achieving record of Rs 10,268.72 crore in earnings in the fiscal year 2023–24.

He reported a remarkable 22% increase in iron ore traffic, averaging 58 rakes per day, alongside significant advancements in long-haul operations, which saw a 74% rise in train services and a 39% decrease in stalling incidents.

Additionally, the division recorded Rs 161.53 crore in scrap disposal earnings, a 71.8% increase from the previous year, and achieved a new high in non-fare revenue at Rs 8.12 crore, reflecting a 46.84% growth.
