Vijayawada: Minister Nara Lokesh has announced that Indichip Semiconductors Ltd., in collaboration with Japan’s Yitoa Micro Technology Ltd. (YMTL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish India's first private semiconductor fabrication facility.
With a significant investment of ₹14,000 crore, the state-of-the-art facility will specialize in the production of Silicon Carbide (SiC) chips, crucial for energy-efficient technologies such as electric vehicles and renewable energy systems.
The facility will be located at the Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. Initially, the plant will produce 10,000 wafers per month, with plans to ramp up production to 50,000 wafers per month within the next two to three years.
This project marks a major step towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a global semiconductor hub, showcasing the state's capacity to attract cutting-edge industries through innovative policies, world-class infrastructure, and a focus on nurturing talent. Minister Lokesh emphasized the government's commitment to providing seamless support to ensure the success of this ambitious project and to strengthen India’s position within the global semiconductor ecosystem.
The establishment of the facility is expected to boost local employment, drive technological innovation, and contribute significantly to India’s self-reliance in the semiconductor sector.
