Vijayawada: YSR Congress chief and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to control the tongue of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is “making baseless allegations” against Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

In the letter to the prime minister, the YSRC chief condemned Naidu’s attempts at unleashing a malicious propaganda about the purity of the ghee used in TTD for laddu prasadam preparations.

"Naidu’s reckless and politically motivated statements have hurt the sentiments of devotees and tarnished the sanctity of the world-renowned temple," Jagan Reddy stated in the letter.

Jagan emphasised the robustness of the long-standing procurement processes at TTD and the quality checks in place there to ensure that only the highest quality ingredients are used for preparation of the prasadam.

He cited the strict e-tendering process, NABL-accredited lab tests and the multi-level checks before any material is used, highlighting that the same steps were in place even during the Telugu Desam’s rule.

Jagan Reddy expressed concerns over the harm such loose talk could cause to the reputation of TTD and the faith of millions of devotees. He proposed that the PM reprimand the chief minister for his objectionable actions and bring the truth to light, so as to restore the trust and faith of the devotees in TTD.

The letter was sent on an occasion marking the completion of 100 days of the TD-led alliance government.

Naidu made the controversial remarks about “use of adulterated ghee” at a political meeting some days ago. It was two months after a tanker-load of ghee was rejected by TTD’s rigorous quality control system. Naidu and TD leaders suggested that animal fat had been mixed in the ghee TTD used for the prasadam preparations when YSRC nominees ran the temple's affairs.

Jagan Reddy told the PM that the “baseless claims” of the CM were an attempt to divert people’s attention from the “failures” of his government and to tarnish the image of the opposition.

The YSRC chief requested the prime minister’s intervention to protect the sanctity of the Tirumala temple and prevent further damage to the sentiments of the devotees.
