Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena leader and GVMC corporator PLN Murthy Yadav has submitted a petition to the district collector, alleging large-scale violation of the CRZ rules along the beach between Visakhapatnam and Bheemili.
Such rule violations have affected the livelihood of thousands of fishermen, destroyed heritage structures and beaches by way of construction of permanent structures, the corporator stated.
In his petition submitted during the ‘grievance redressal day’ event organised at the collectorate on Monday, Murthy Yadav sought demolition of these structures.
The worst sufferers, he said, were fishermen who were being deprived of their livelihood. The roads between their villages and the sea have been grabbed and they were denied space for drying the fish and doing repairs to their nets. All these spaces have been grabbed and permanent structures erected, Yadav stated.
He said even the cremation ground of the fishermen in Eguvapeta village in Bheemili was grabbed and a hotel built there in violation of the CRZ norms.
Alleging that most of the CRZ violations took place between Erramatti Dibbalu and Bheemili Beach, Yadav said several hotels and commercial units sprouted there. The AP high court had ordered removal of these structures but officials played a blame game and did not intervene, he said.
Yadav said GVMC officials removed several structures between Jodugullapalem and Bheemili that were built in violation of CRZ norms after the YSRC government came to power in 2019.
“I had lodged complaints with the authorities repeatedly on CRZ violations, but there was no response,” he said.
