Four Aqua Farmers Sent for Remand

Kakinada: Uppalaguptam police arrested four aqua farmers—Ganisetti Srinivasa Rao, 48, Ganisetti Venkata Raju, 67, Chikkam Gandhi, 63, and Ganisetty Satyanarayana Murthy, 58,—from Sannavilli village in Uppalaguptam mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district. They were arrested for allegedly assaulting Ghikkam Veera Durga Prasad, a person fighting against the pollution caused by aqua ponds.

Uppalaguptam sub-inspector Rajesh stated that the victim was taking photos of the aqua ponds and the farmers using his cell phone when the accused attacked him. The accused allegedly grabbed his phone, broke it, and tied the victim to a pillar before severely beating him.

The accused were produced before the court, which sent them to judicial remand for 14 days. The Sub-Inspector confirmed that they have been sent to Central Jail at Rajamahendravaram. The Uppalaguptam police have registered a case.
