Killings Outshine Criminal Cases in Factional Anantapur District
Anantapur: Anantapur district witnessed 900 criminal cases, including sensational ones, during 2024 wherein courts sentenced 98 accused to life term rigorous imprisonment in 78 major cases, Anantapur superintendent of police P. Jagadish observed.
The criminal cases included one in which the Anantapur District Sessions Court convicted seven members of a family to undergo double life imprisonment.
Significantly, the case involved no factionalism. Boya Sake Balakrishna and his brothers murdered D. Shiva Reddy, a gram panchayat member in Kandukur village of Anantapur Rural mandal.
The murder followed a small quarrel during the Peerla Pandaga in the village on March 30, 2018.
The SP said apart from a double life term imprisonment, police investigations achieved 11 life term imprisonments, 10 years in two cases, 7 years in 3 cases and conviction below 3 years for the accused in 59 cases.
A private school teacher had been murdered by her lover in a deep forest near Pampanur in Atmakur mandal. Advanced technology, including CCTV footage and mobile phone signals, helped solve the mystery.
In a POCSO case involving a minor girl in Puttur mandal, the accused suffered imprisonment, while the family of the victim got ₹10 lakh in compensation.
