Kurnool: Advocates in Kurnool have welcomed the state government’s decision to expedite the establishment of a High Court Bench in the city through a resolution in the Assembly. They expressed happiness over the assurance that all related legal bodies, including the Lokayukta, Human Rights Commission, Wakf Tribunal and Electricity Regulatory Commission, will remain in Kurnool instead of being relocated to Amaravati. This announcement by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is seen as a major step towards fulfilling a key promise made in the election manifesto, they said.

Advocates, who had earlier voiced strong opposition to the relocation, are now optimistic about the city getting a permanent High Court Bench and retaining the legal bodies.
Rayalaseema Advocates’ Joint Action Committee convener Y. Jaya Raju has expressed his gratitude to industries minister T.G. Bharath for initiating the process and congratulated the Chief Minister for addressing the long-pending demand.
He called the decision a “historic moment” for Rayalaseema and thanked the government for dispelling doubts about the relocation of legal entities to Amaravati.
However, he stated that the court boycott programme has not been called off, as they are awaiting a significant development in the process.
Telugu Desam legal cell members symbolically washed Naidu’s portrait with milk. Lawyers Akepogu Prabhakar, D. Srinivasulu and Chandrasekhar garlanded the statue of late NTR and criticised the previous government for misleading the public with the promise of three capitals.
They alleged that the previous government, particularly former finance minister Buggana Rajendranath, had deceived the people with the Simhagarjana Sabha. The advocates highlighted that the process had been initiated last month with a letter from the Chief Minister and law secretary V. Sunitha to the High Court. They also appreciated the government’s move to provide a ₹10,000 monthly honorarium to junior lawyers, expressing hope that Kurnool will soon become a legal hub.
