Kurnool: The Kurnool district administration has come up with a ₹7.87 crore initiative to improve the air quality in the city, under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

District collector P. Ranjit Basha has given his nod for several measures to combat pollution and create a cleaner, healthier environment. These include developing greenery, installing water fountains at key junctions, paving end-to-end roads, and undertaking junction development works.
The programme is expected to enhance the city’s air quality and mitigate the effects of pollution.
Kurnool city has been grappling with the problem of atmospheric dust due to continuous vehicle movement, poor road conditions, a lack of green spaces and inadequate sanitation measures.
With this initiative, the authorities hope to improve living conditions and air quality, addressing both environmental and health concerns.
One of the key projects involves the construction of dust-free blacktop roads. The collector has promised blacktop roads with dust-free surfaces along major routes such as from Kids World to Raj Vihar Bus Stop, from C. Camp to Vigyan Mandir, from the Viswesvarayya Circle to Rythu Bazaar, and from Vigyan Mandir to B Camp Auto Stand.
As for expanding the green space, a plantation drive will be launched from Ulchala Junction to Peddapadu, along with the development of Kisan Nagar Park. Greenery will be created around the circles and road dividers to improve aesthetics and air quality. Additionally, display boards will be set up at three locations across the city to provide real-time air quality data.
Public awareness programmes will also be conducted to encourage greenery development and pollution control.
Collaborative efforts of various line departments will be ensured in maintaining clean air within the city.
"We are taking support from the forest, municipal administration, the roads and buildings, the health and other departments,” an official stated.
