Kurnool: Girl students of Banavasi Girls' Residential School in Yemmiganur mandal alleged misconduct by the institution's librarian, Maddileti. Following a complaint by an intermediate second-year student, her parents confronted the librarian, which led to a protest by student unions on Thursday. The unions staged a demonstration on the national highway, demanding the immediate suspension of the outsourced librarian.

The local police registered a case against Maddileti under the POCSO Act.

The incident came to light after the student performed poorly in exams. Upon inquiry by her parents, she revealed that in November last year, the librarian had attempted to sexually assault her in the library. The girl resisted and escaped, but the trauma affected her academics.

On Wednesday, the girl’s parents confronted the librarian and the principal, Srinivasa Gupta, at the college. After failing to provide a satisfactory explanation, the librarian was reportedly assaulted by the aggrieved parents. The principal also sustained minor injuries during the confrontation. Following the incident, the librarian reportedly took leave and sought treatment at a hospital.

The student’s parents have since taken her home, citing safety concerns at the institution. Investigations revealed that the librarian's daughter had previously studied at the same college, and Maddileti had joined as a guest librarian three years ago when the position became vacant.
