Laddu controversy: AP Congress chief seeks CBI probe
Vijayawada: AP Congress chief Y.S. Sharmila Reddy sought a CBI probe into the alleged presence of animal fat in the ghee used in preparation of Laddu prasadam at Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala. In a letter addressed to the Union home minister Amit Shah, AP Congress chief asked him to order a CBI probe, claiming that fat from dead animals and fish oil were being used in the ghee as an ingredient in the laddu prasadam. Quoting the Telugu Desam’s claims of a lab report from the National Dairy Development Board CALF Limited, indicating the presence of beef tallow and possibly other animal fats in ghee samples and also findings of lard and fish oil, she said there was no official confirmation either from the state government or from the TTD Board on the issue so far.
