Law student sexually assaulted by classmates in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: A 20-year-old law student has allegedly been gang-raped by four of her classmates, including her boyfriend. The incident came to light after the victim attempted suicide at her home, prompting her family to file a police complaint on Monday.

According to the complaint filed by the victim's father, the main accused, Vamsi, took her to Kambalkonda on August 10 under the pretense of proposing marriage, where he sexually abused her. Vamsi had recorded the assault in a video and threatened the girl to meet him again on August 13. He brought her to his friend Anand's house in Daba Gardens, where she was sexually abused by Anand and two other friends, Rajesh and Jagadeesh.

The victim attempted suicide on November 18 and her father filed a complaint. The case, initially filed at New Port Police, was later transferred to the 2-Town police station, where her statement was recorded.

Visakhapatnam commissioner Sankhabrata Bagchi confirmed that all four suspects have been apprehended and are currently in custody. Home minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed concern over the incident and spoke with the commissioner. She instructed the police officials to ensure that those responsible are punished and assured that the victim's family would receive government support.
