Lokesh Appeals Centre to Aid to State to Tide Over Crisis

Vijayawada: Senior Minister Nara Lokesh has explained to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan that the huge floods in Krishna river this time was unprecedented in its history and the damage it caused was the worst. The minister explained the details of the flood damage to the central minister and requested him to provide generous help from the Centre to the flood victims. During the floods, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu acted vigilantly and managed to prevent loss of lives, Lokesh said. Lokesh welcomed Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the latter’s arrival at Gannavaram Airport to visit the flood-affected areas on Thursday afternoon.

Chouhan inspected the Budameru and its catchment areas via an aerial survey. He also had a look from the sky at the flood- affected areas such as Jakkampudi, Milk Factory, Kandrika and Ajit Singh Nagar. Lokesh explained the damage the floods did to each of these areas to the Union minister.

The two landed at the helipad of the CM’s residence and then inspected the flood-damaged Prakasam Barrage gates by road. Lokesh informed Chouhan about the details of the repair works for the gates. They inspected the flood-affected areas of Ambapuram and Vijayawada.

Lokesh said, “We are working hard to fill the breach of Budameru.” Chouhan said help will soon be provided to compensate for the damage caused by the flood. He promised support to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

Along with Lokesh, Union minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, MP Purandhareswari and MLA Sujana Chaudhary joined Chauhan in his visit.
