MLA Varma Inaugurates Red Cross Blood Storage Center at Bapatla

Vijayawada: The Indian Red Cross Society’s Bapatla district branch has established a Red Cross Blood Storage Centre in Bapatla, the district headquarters that will soon have a Medical college and Teaching Hospital.

To fulfill the growing demand for blood units in Bapatla district, the Red Cross came up with the project that cost Rs 12 lakh with support from the Sriram Seva Sankalp Foundation, Chennai.

Bapatla MLA Narendra Varma has inaugurated the Blood Storage Centre. He appreciated the efforts of the Red Cross to mitigate the problems of making available safe blood to people in his constituency in times of emergencies.

He promised all support to the Red Cross in taking up more service activities in Bapatla district. “I am a Patron Member of the Red Cross,” he said and asked the public, mainly youth, to donate blood to save the lives of people during emergencies.

BVS Kumar, state coordinator of Red Cross Blood Banks and Projects in Andhra Pradesh, has said AP Red Cross is operating 21 Blood Centres across the state and is providing around 1,10,000 safe blood units per year in the state.

AP Red Cross wishes to establish more Blood storage centres in all districts to make available the blood units in emergencies at prominent divisional and mandal headquarters.

Narayana Bhatt, chairman of the IRCS, Bapatla district branch, has thanked the Sriram Seva Sankalpam Foundation for its support to this Blood Storage centre.
