NHRC Steps In to Investigate Hidden Camera Incident in Girls' Hostel

Vijayawada:National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken up an inquiry suo moto on placing of hidden cameras in the girls’ hostel washroom at an engineering college located in Krishna district recently and served notices to the Chief Secretary and DGP to submit their report in two weeks.

Based on media reports on the incident, the NHRC reacted and ordered for a probe.

It may be mentioned that several girl students staged a protest against the incident and it was alleged that some students even purchased such videos shot in secret. The police is reportedly questioning one of the students accused in the case for more details on the development.

The NHRC opined that if the incident found to be true, it was violation of human rights and pointed out that the officials were unable to ensure safe environment to the women and raised concern over the development.
