Vijayawada: Following a large number of students falling ill due to food poisoning at Nuzvid IIIT College, the state government has suspended the services of Fine Catering Services and Anusha Hospitality. These actions were taken based on an investigation report.

Minister for Education Nara Lokesh has ordered the officials to blacklist these contractors and prevent them from participating in any future tenders. He has also directed the authorities to initiate criminal charges against them and ordered the immediate closure of the food court.
Minister Lokesh has mandated that food services be provided by KMK Catering Services until new contractors are appointed. The tender process for new contractors should be completed within two weeks. Additionally, he directed the officials to collect the food court lease amount from the catering agencies within this period and suggested continued supervision by the RDO until the situation stabilizes.
The investigation report revealed severe hygiene issues in the kitchen, including an infestation of cockroaches, inadequate measures for washing plates, and a single kitchen serving all four dining halls. The report also noted the presence of fungus on kitchen windows, insect-infested rice and pulses, and rotten eggs.
The report recommended the formation of a student committee to oversee the stalls, food area, and kitchen. It also suggested appointing two staff members for daily kitchen inspections and two food inspectors for daily evaluations.
