Visakhapatnam: Anna canteens, which had been lying in a poor condition, are being renovated soon after the TD-led alliance government has taken over the state.

The very first day when N. Chandrababu Naidu took over as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, he signed five key files, including one on renovation of Anna canteens.

There had been 203 such canteens across the state, 25 of them in Visakhapatnam. Most of these had become dilapidated. State government has directed the authorities concerned to restore these canteens and reopen them. Additionally, proposals have been made to build more Anna canteens in Visakhapatnam.

In this regard, Telugu Desam Visakha district president Gandi Babji said, “Chandrababu Naidu is restarting Anna canteens to satisfy the hunger of the poor. There is a new vigour in Visakhapatnam in this regard.

In Visakhapatnam, Anna canteens are strategically located, including at KGH, Purnamarket, VIMS Hospital and MVP Market.

Babji said a comprehensive plan is being put in place to ensure the availability of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Started by the TD government earlier, these canteens have been instrumental in providing food for just Rs 5, catering to the needs of the poor.
