Purandeswari Welcomes ONOE

Kakinada: Bharatiya Janata Party's state president D. Purandeswari welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the "One Nation, One Election" (ONOE) proposal, saying it will save public funds.

Calling the proposal "commendable", the Rajamahendravaram MP said ONOE will help the country to develop at a rapid pace.

She advised all parties to render their support to the plan. She also criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for insulting the country during his visit abroad.

Hindi Fortnight at ENC

Visakhapatnam: The Hindi Fortnight (Pakhwada) at Eastern Naval Command, here, was inaugurated by Rear Admiral M. Murali Mohan Raju.

The ceremony on Wednesday was attended by both service and civilian personnel from various ships and establishments of the ENC.

The Admiral congratulated all prize winners and emphasised the significance of using Hindi in official work.

He appreciated the dedicated efforts of ENC personnel towards implementation of Hindi and urged them to continue their contributions towards enhancing use of the language in the Command.

The Hindi Fortnight will feature a range of activities including competitions and workshops and would culminate with the release of the 30th edition of the in-house Hindi magazine 'Poorvi Vani' on October 10.

100 Trap Cameras Installed to Catch Leopard

Kakinada: Nearly two weeks after a leopard was seen near a residential area in Diwarncheruvu reserve forest, Rajamahendravaram, the forest officials remained unable to catch the animal, while unconfirmed reports spread panic in nearby areas.

District forest officer S. Bharani said 100 trap cameras were installed in the forest. She said reports that the leopard had moved into Srirampuram and Kolamuru areas was false as the purported pugmarks are too small to be of a leopard.

"There is no evidence to suggest the leopard moved in Srirampuram and Kolamuru areas," Bharani said.

She requested the people not to spread false campaigns on the leopard as it is also a crime.

Bharat Seeks Kurnool to Vijayawada Train

Kurnool: Industries minister T.G. Bharat met Union minister of state for Railways V. Somanna in Delhi on Thursday, urging the provision of a direct rail line from Kurnool town to Vijayawada Junction.

Bharat submitted a representation which highlighted the challenges faced by people travelling to Amaravati for government and other business purposes.

He emphasised the growing importance of Kurnool's Orvakal industrial hub and requested that a weekly train service be established from Kurnool to Mumbai.
