Visakhapatnam: PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) parents of Kalyan Lava in Ravikamatham mandal of Chimalapadu panchayat in Anakapalle district staged a dharna seeking date of birth (DoB) certificates for their school-going children on a priority basis.

The parents, belonging to the Kondu tribe, require the DoBs to register their children in APAAR (Automatic Permanent Academic Account Register), which requires consistent documentation across their Aadhaar cards, school administration registers, and date of birth certificates.

The headmaster of the school, where their children are studying, wants the parents to submit their kids’ birth certificates within 10 days. The tribal parents point out that it takes at least two months for them to secure the date of birth certificates. They experience difficulty in securing these certificates as many births in tribal villages are home deliveries due to inadequate road facilities to reach hospitals.

The parents thus have to obtain certificates from Anganwadi teachers and panchayat secretaries, notarise these documents and register online. All this would take time.

The protesters requested Anakapalle district collector Vijaya Krishnan to issue special orders similar to those by ASR district collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar to expedite issuance of birth certificates. Otherwise, education of their children will be in jeopardy.

Those who participated in the dharna include CPM Anakapalle district executive member K. Govinda Rao and PVTG Sangham assistant secretary Gammila Vasu. They demanded immediate intervention of authorities to ensure the tribal children's fundamental right to education.
