Rains: Reservoir Levels Rising in North Andhra, Alert Sounded

 Visakhapatnam: Reservoirs are attaining full capacity in North Andhra regions following heavy rains, prompting the local authorities to issue alerts to residents on Wednesday.

Vizianagaram collector BR Ambedkar issued an advisory, urging those living in riverside villages of Gantiyada, Jami and S Kota mandals downstream of the Tatipudi reservoir to remain vigilant. The water flow in the Gosthani river was increasing.

The water level in the Tatipudi reservoir rose to 295.40 feet, nearing its full capacity of 297 feet by evening. With inflows recorded at 450 cubic feet per second, a gate was lifted to release 350 cusecs of water downstream to maintain the reservoir’s capacity.

The Andra Reservoir receiving water from the Champavati river was also approaching full capacity. During the day, it recorded a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 146 metres, the current level (PL) put at 143.15 meters. The average inflows were reported at 150 cusecs.

As of 6am on Dec 25, the Vengalaraya Sagaram Project that draws water from the Suvarnamukhi reported an FRL of 161 metres, while the current level (PL) was at 160.40 metres.

The SGSN Madduvalasa reservoir is currently maintaining a level of 64metres out of a full capacity of 65.00 metres.

The Vottigedda reservoir, a critical water resource for the region, provided its daily status report on Dec 25. It showed an FRL of 121.62 metres and a current level (PL) of 111.31 metres. Inflows from the catchment area are recorded at 124 cusecs.
