Visakhapatnam: Five female students were bitten by rats while sleeping at Mahila Gurukula College in Tamarapally late on Monday night.

The college staff provided first aid to Rohini, an intermediate second-year student, and to first-year students Sravanti, Harika, Balamani, and Saujanya, who were injured by the rat bites.

Rohini was taken to Narasannapeta Primary Health Centre on Wednesday, where doctors conducted blood tests and treated her injuries. The students are concerned about the high number of rats and mice around the college hostel. Both students and their parents are urging the college to take measures to prevent harmful pests from entering their rooms.

Meanwhile, the principal of Mahila Gurukula College reassured students and parents that such incidents would not occur in the future. She mentioned that measures have been taken, including sealing off rat traps and conducting pest control, to prevent similar occurrences.
