In a heartening display of environmental responsibility, the King George Hospital (KGH) administration, along with the local organisation Climate Front Visakhapatnam, has successfully revived a 25-foot-tall almond tree that was uprooted during recent heavy rains.
Instead of resorting to felling the fallen giant, the KGH authorities took a proactive approach.
With the help of Climate Front, they initiated a meticulous two-day process to save the tree. This involved careful pruning of branches and fruit removal to facilitate vital fungal treatment, aimed at reviving the tree.
A JCB machine then assisted in relocating the tree to a new spot 50 metres away from its original location within the parking area.
This strategic placement ensures the tree's continued growth and avoids potential future conflicts with infrastructure. Bhattacharya, a representative from Climate Front Visakhapatnam, expressed optimism, citing a similar successful project where a tree at Kakinada Medical College was revived using fungal and nutritional treatments.
KGH Superintendent Sivananda commended the collaborative effort and pledged the hospital's commitment to the ongoing care and conservation of the revived almond tree. This initiative serves as a commendable example of prioritizing environmental well-being and fostering a greener hospital environment.
