Supreme Court of India.

Vijayawada: The Supreme Court held a hearing on illegal sand mining in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

The AP government argued that the evidence pertaining to the illegal sand mining carried out earlier had been wiped out following floods to the rivers. It sought three months time to conduct a scientific investigation and to submit a comprehensive report on the illegal sand mining.
The court directed both the AP government and Union ministry of environment and forests to file additional affidavits on the issue for further examination. The court said it would examine the affidavit filed by the AP government before issuing further orders.

The Central committee also sought some time to take up study on the illegal sand mining in eight districts of AP.
After hearing both the parties, the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing to August 31.
