Vijayawada: As part of an infrastructural upgrade, the Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway has commissioned the advanced Automatic Block Signalling System for a stretch of 21.21km. This functions between Gannavaram, Pedda Avutapalli, Telaprolu and Nuzvid stations.
Divisional railway manager Narendra Patil said this would enhance safety and efficiency. “This ambitious project in the most congested Gannavaram–Nuzvid Section was executed in 12 months with an investment of `31.81 crore by the Gati Shakti Team of the Vijayawada division.”
With this, a total length of 58.91km is equipped with the system across Vijayawada Division. The stretch between Nidadavolu- Kovvur was commissioned in April, 24. Other stretches commissioned in Vijayawada division were between Vijayawada – Gannavaram and Vijayawada – Krishna Canal Junction. Such works are in progress at other important sections that have experienced heavy congestion, he said.
The DRM said the Gannavaram – Nuzvid section is a vital part of the railway network, serving both passenger and freight traffic.
A total of 22 automatic signals were set up along the Gannavaram – Nuzvid Section.Two ABS huts in the mid-section and four ABS equipment huts at Gannavaram, Pedda Avutapalle, Telaprolu, Nuzvid stations respectively were constructed with pre-stressed precast technology for housing the ABS equipment, he said.
