East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh): Police have enforced Section 144 CrPc in Kovvur town of the East Godavari district in the wake of a clash between two communities.

The police, who are on alert, stated that the 34 Act is also in effect in Kovvur and police picketing will continue. While taking Ganesh idols for immersion, a clash occurred between two communities from Sriram Nagar and Rajiv Colony, leading to a tense situation.

As both groups recklessly hurled stones and sticks at each other, three people were injured. Consequently, the police were deployed in large numbers in Rajiv Colony and Sriram Nagar to bring the situation under control.

Police tightened security arrangements under the supervision of Kovvur DSP Devara Kumar, who said that some miscreants were responsible for the tense conditions in Kovvur and urged all residents to maintain coordination.

They warned that due to the imposition of Section 144, community leaders should not come to Kovvur and that action will be taken against those responsible for the disturbance.
