Southwest monsoon covers entire Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam: The southwest monsoon has covered the entire Andhra Pradesh by Thursday. The monsoons set in over the state on June 2 but remained sluggish due to lack of monsoon troughs in the Bay of Bengal.

Director of IMD Amaravati, Stella S., said the rainfall so far this month was above the normal level. The highest departure was witnessed in Annamaya district with 172.7 mm against the normal fall of 46.7 mm. Nandyal district received 210.3 mm against a normal fall of 57.5 mm and Sri Sathya Sai district received 149.4 mm against a normal fall of 43.8 mm.

Some districts recorded deficit rainfall this month. East Godavari received 30.9 mm against normal fall of 75.7 mm and Alluri Sitarama Raju district received 64.2 mm rainfall against the normal fall of 111.1 mm.

The monsoon has advanced into some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, northwest Bay of Bengal, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar.

The northern limit of the monsoon now passes through Amaravati, Gondia, Durg, Rampur (Kalahandi), Malda, Bhagalpur and Raxaul.

Conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of the Gangetic West Bengal, remaining parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal, some parts of Jharkhand, some more parts of Bihar and some parts of East Uttar Pradesh during the next three to four days.

The cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana at 5.8 km above mean sea level has become less marked.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema till June 24. Gusty winds with speed reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph likely over the same place North Coastal AP, Yanam, South Coastal AP and Rayalaseema, IMD said in its daily report.
