Tirupati: Nellore district collector O. Anand has launched an initiative to accelerate industrial development in Nellore, calling for streamlined approvals, improved infrastructure, and increased financial support for entrepreneurs.

Chairing a meeting of the district industries and export promotion committee at the collectorate here on Thursday, Anand emphasised that industrial growth is crucial for job creation and urged officials to remove obstacles hindering new industrial setups.

"We must give special attention to establishing industries in our district," he said, outlining a multi-pronged approach to boost Nellore's industrial sector.

The collector directed officials to expedite land acquisition, ensure water availability, and provide reliable power supply to new industries.

Anand stressed the importance of swift permissions for industrial projects and called for rigorous implementation of the 'cluster development programme'. He suggested that officials should inform the respective industry representatives why applications were being rejected, get them to make rectifications, and have the industry managers submit applications again.

The collector instructed officials to work closely with banks to facilitate Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) loans for both new ventures and expansion of existing units.

He also highlighted potential focus areas for cluster development, including readymade garments, gold crafts, printing, and notebook manufacturing.

The district collector further instructed officials to select beneficiaries for these clusters and take steps to facilitate loan approvals through the Khadi Village Industries Board and the District Industries Centre. Industries department general manager Sudhakar presented a progress report on actions taken since the previous meeting.
