Vijayawada: AP State ST Commission chairman Dr D.V.G. Shankar Rao said on Wednesday that the recent floods have devastated Vijayawada city, causing significant damage, particularly to ST communities who have lost their livelihoods.

Shankar Rao mentioned that the ST Commission would submit a report to the state government on the current situation in the flood-affected areas.

Shankar Rao, along with ST Commission member Shankar Naik, toured the New RR Pet, Vambay Colony, Jakkampudi YSR Colony and other flood-affected areas, where they interacted with the tribals and enquired about the difficulties they faced due to the floods and the assistance they received from the government during the crisis.

Speaking to the media, Shankar Rao said that flood-hit people had informed the Commission about lack of ration and Aadhaar cards and the failure to receive pensions from the government. He assured them that the Commission would bring these problems to the government's attention and ensure that all welfare schemes are made available to the tribals.
