Visakhapatnam:A tragic incident occurred in Patharlapalli village of Ranasthalam mandal in Srikakulam district on Wednesday, resulting in the death of a Year 10 student. V. Krishnan Raju, aged 15, lost his life when an under-construction building collapsed on the premises of ZP High School. Another student, Korada Sriramulu, in Year 9, sustained serious injuries.

The incident happened while the students were playing cricket and ventured near the unfinished building to retrieve a ball. The collapse trapped both students, leading to this tragic outcome.

Sriramulu was immediately rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Superintendent Dr Shakila confirmed that all necessary medical tests, including X-rays and scans, were conducted promptly. The district collector assured that the student's condition is stable and ordered appropriate measures for further treatment.

The deceased student's body was shifted to Srikakulam RIMS Hospital. District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar visited the hospital on Wednesday evening to express his condolences to the bereaved family and assured full support from the district administration during this difficult time.

Following the incident, education department officials have been directed to install fences around construction areas in all schools under construction in the district to prevent students from entering these dangerous zones.
