Tension mounts as villagers demand shifting of dumping yard from Bandarulanka village
Vijayawada:Tension mounted at Bandarulanka village in Amalapuram rural mandal under the Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district on Wednesday as villagers staged a stir on the main road seeking removal of the dumping yard there.
The yard was posing a health hazard to the residents of the area, they complained.
Amalapuram rural police said collection of domestic garbage in the gram panchayat, with the help of a tractor, remained affected for several days as the villagers were resisting it. This resulted in the piling up of garbage in the streets, he said.
Revenue and panchayat raj officials held talks with the villagers. They urged the protesters to allow lifting of the garbage, but the protest action continued.
Police swung into action and brought in a tractor to lift the garbage. The villagers resisted this on Wednesday, resulting in mounting tension in the village.
The police took 30 villagers into preventive custody and shifted them to the police station. They were released later.
